If we keep doing the same things, we got get different results. Every day, our surroundings demand going further and getting solutions or innovative ideas to stay afloat. If you believe you can’t do it, you must keep reading.
The first thing you have to do to start generating creative ideas, it is important to remember creativity is not a privilege only a few people have, we’re all creative, we only have to explore and practice.
So, once we know we can all be creative, it’s time to know how to do it. The truth is, there are many techniques that don’t work for everybody, but they make the process easier, which everyone will adapt according to their necessities.
It’s about inspiration: creativity must be feed so it can grow, which is why it is necessary to look for content that inspires us, opens our minds up, and motivates us. This can be from a museum to a gallery, going to the park, watching a video, look for materials or photographs, etc.
A bit of investigation: if there is a specific problem or a particular situation you want to solve, it’s important to find information with time and document yourself. Find out which previous solutions have been used to solve it.
Don’t leave anything off the table: forget judgements, no idea is bad, crazy, or impossible. Let’s put all the cards on the table, no matter how crazy it might seem. During a creative process, everything goes and works as a source to generate new ideas from, don’t overthink, let yourself go, and express what you think with no shame.
Surround yourself with people: a creative process will always be more enriching when you have a team. The fact that you can brainstorm ideas and listen to different perspectives will always help you grow, compliment yourselves, and go further.
Draw: it doesn’t matter if you don’t have drawing abilities, grab a pencil and paper and start doodling. Try to explain your ideas graphically, draw the processes, a prototype, and a mental map. This will allow you to separate your ideas and see them more clearly, but it will also stimulate your brain.
Go further: during a creative process many ideas come up, some of them we like more than others, and one of them is our favorite. Regardless, the key to obtain truly creative ideas is by not settling for anything.
Often times, we feel as though our brain is fatigued, that it can’t think anymore, or that we’re always going back to the same idea. This is when we must push further, take that idea and see how you can bring it to the next level.
Empathy: remember who you’re creating for and try to put yourself in their shoes, it will always help us get out of the mold a little bit. Think like someone else, try to feel like someone else, make challenging questions. This will help us understand the context from another perspective, and ultimately generate different ideas.
